About Us Page

We are the Sotonettes, a modern, progressive Women’s Institute based in Southampton City Centre.

Our next main meeting will be on Tuesday 25th January at 7.30pm

Southampton’s Bid for City of Culture 2025

This month hear how the Mayflower theatre is involved in Southampton’s bid for City of Culture 2025 as well as learning a little about it’s history. We will also have a speaker from the SO25 team.

We will be meeting in the Eagle Network Lab, Portland Terrace, Southampton SO14 7SJ. The entrance is opposite Quilter, just across the road from Asda.

Join us from 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.

This meeting is of course free for all Sotonettes members. Visitors are very welcome, cost £5, (or £3 if you are a member of another WI)

Find out more about this event and any updates on our Facebook page here.

If you have any questions, you can email us at sotonettes@gmail.com or send us a message using Facebook.

If you would like to join the Sotonettes (£44 from 1 Apr 21-31 Mar 22, pro rata if new to the WI), then contact us in advance to do so by emailing sotonettes@gmail.com

The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. Have a look at the National WI website here.

Modern WIs are uniting women across the country, mixing traditional WI principles with a focus on topics and interests of their members. It’s not all Jam and Jerusalem!

Our meetings are a place where women of all ages from the local community can share interests and learn new skills, and, most importantly enjoy themselves.

The Sotonettes WI usually meets on the last Tuesday of the month, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, in central Southampton. On occasion, we may meet on a different date or use a different venue but this will be well advertised in advance.  Each meeting is different and we have a range of things lined up. We may be learning a new craft or skill, having a speaker come in to talk about a topic or focusing on a campaign issue. To find out what we’ve got planned take a look at our Events Calendar. We’re also on Facebook and Twitter too.

Thinking of joining the WI?  You are very welcome to come along to a meeting to find out more about us and you don’t have to be a member to participate – attending as a visitor costs £5 per meeting. Alternatively, you can join the WI for a whole year in 2021 for only £44. You may visit us three times before joining – if you join on the same night as visiting, we’ll even refund your visitor fee! If you are a current member of another WI, just bring along your membership card and it’ll only cost £3 to visit us.
