Avoid food waste, address food poverty

In June 2016 the NFWI voted overwhelming to support the resolution Avoid food waste, address food poverty:

“The WI calls on all supermarkets to sign up to a voluntary agreement to avoid food waste, thereby passing surplus food on to charities thus helping to address the issue of increasing food poverty in the UK.”

The NFWI has established two surveys, one on food habits (which can be found here), the other is about supermarket practices that promote food waste (which can be found here). Both surveys should be completed by 1st November. You can keep up to date with NFWI’s latest work on this campaign here.

Over the coming year the Sotonettes will be actively supporting the WI’s avoid food waste campaign, by incorporating this into our 2017 meeting plan. We will update you with more information soon.
